US Congress has approved tighter background checks on gun buyers.

The US Congress has approved tighter background checks on gun buyers. Will this make a difference? The new US law was prompted by the deaths of 32 people at Virginia Tech University, when a mentally ill student used two guns he had been able to buy.

People's mentality needs to be changed, those who want guns will find them easily on the black market & many people who use guns don't have a criminal record so a background check wouldn't work. Societies that severely limit the ownership of guns have far fewer gun related crimes - and that's a good thing.

I don't think tighter legislation will make a difference. Crazy people will pop up now and then and kill people with guns, that's a fact and nothing is going to change that. It's the times we live in. I don't feel comfortable with only the police/govt having guns. I don't trust them to protect us in an emergency. I believe in people taking care of themselves instead of relying on the govt. for everything.
