Online Learning

If you have doubts about getting your MBA, you should remember that an MBA is an investment, with the payback coming in the shape of increased salary and career prospects after the degree. This needs to be factored in when choosing an Online Learning programme. What may at first seem expensive can in the longer view turn out to be a sound proposition? Note, too, that occasionally employers can be persuaded to contribute to the cost of an MBA, either by supporting an employee on a part-time programme, largely paying for an Executive MBA or even recompensing for the fees spent when hiring a newly graduated MBA.

Fidel Castro out of power

The National Assembly of Cuba has selected Raul Castro to replace brother Fidel as Cuba's new president.
Pray for the Cuban people, and Zimbabweans, and North Koreans, etc. The Castro family should relax their grip on people’s throats and allow Cubans some breathing room. Chaves, Mugabe, Jong-ill, etc need to relent too. There is not a single value that the commies add to this world except some fake opposition to USA. USA and other capitalistic countries enjoy very good lives, and are steady adjusting their ways to better serve their people. Commies never adjust, and have no ideas for better life.
Pray!!!

Sicily's Mafia is rebuilding its networks in the US

Sicily's Mafia is rebuilding its networks in the US, according to an Italian parliamentary report. The report says Cosa Nostra has been sending people to the US to form alliances with families with which it had lost contact in the 1980s. It says that while the mob maintains a foothold in the lucrative drugs trade, it is now moving into new areas.

Although Cosa Nostra has its roots in Italian organised crime, it has long been a separate organisation in the US. But this month in an operation codenamed Old Bridge, a reference to these long-standing links between Sicily and New York, the FBI revealed details of the new relationships being formed across the Atlantic. They rounded up more than 80 gangsters in New York including the acting bosses of the Gambino crime family - known to have direct links with Sicily.

Turkey to re-examine the Hadith

Theologians at Ankara University have been commissioned by the Turkish Department of Religious Affairs to re-examine the Hadith - a collection of sayings attributed to the Prophet Muhammad and the second most sacred text in Islam. The Turkish state claims that many of the sayings in the Hadith were not actually spoken by Muhammad and that others need to be re-examined in the context of modern Turkish society. The Turkish state feels that the Hadith often obscures the original values of Islam and that this can have a negative affect on society.

Really, religion should be the personal relationship between you and your lord, your god, your guru... depending on your view of faith. In practice, Turkey as a nation should have no bearing on the direction and decision of a Moslem person regarding their path in life. The problem is that some facets of Islam are enforcing the application of standards. This is much like hindering life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Ultimately, this will not work and everyone needs to find their own path.

Taliban has retaken control of about 10 percent of Afghanistan's territory

The Taliban has retaken control of about 10 percent of Afghanistan's territory, less than seven years after being run out of the country by US military forces. The US-backed Hamid Karzai government meanwhile, controls just 30 percent, and then the rest of it was local control. These gains of Taliban can be attributed in part to aid from the Al-Qaeda international terror network.

Afghanistan has in the last year seen its most violent period since the fall of the Taliban in 2001, increasing pressure on the United States and its allies in NATO to beef up their military contingents to avoid the country falling again to the radical Islamists. At the same time, Al-Qaeda presents an increased threat to Pakistan, while it continues to plan, support and direct transnational attacks from its de facto safe haven in Pakistan's largely ungoverned frontier provinces.

Real democracy for Pakistan

Musharraf says moderate forces in his country have been strengthened by the general election. The two main opposition parties, the Pakistan People's Party and the PMLN, triumphed in the poll and have begun intense negotiations on a new government.

Real democracy has never, and is unlikely to take root in Pakistan! The power of the zamindars & the military has ensured this outcome. Education is minimal & educated people who aren't part of the power apparatus have voted with their feet & emigrated to other countries. Pakistan is heavily indebted to various institutions & military rule for more than half its life has created its own 'parallel country'. In reality it is on the verge of; or is a failed state. Elections don't really matter!!

US military is monitoring events in Cuba

The US military is monitoring events in Cuba from its Southern Command post in Miami, following Fidel Castro's announcement that he is stepping aside as leader of the communist island. US military officials said they remain vigilant for a change of conditions in Cuba that might warrant the deployment of US troops in the region.

The US Coast Guard said it was also keeping an eye on developments on the communist island, where past dramatic political or economic changes have sparked civil unrest or mass defections to the United States. In a message published in the online version of the Cuban Communist Party newspaper Granma, Castro, 81, citing poor health, said Tuesday that he would not seek reelection as president when the country's national assembly meets Sunday -- in effect an announcement of his retirement as Cuba's president.

Gold coins if you know what Greenspan said today

There is an increasingly wide range of methods available to investors wanting to buy gold, or gain exposure to gold price movements. From gold coins to complex structured financial products, the most appropriate way will depend on the requirements and outlook of the individual investor.

My reasoning for my interest in gold coins is a little unique. I've tried to avoid the cliché stories about gold and gold coins. They're the "easy" stories to tell you. I'm avoiding them because, quite frankly, the easy stories gold bugs sell you are not the reason I'm buying.

I buy gold coins because, first of all, I believe that gold is cheap.

Gold is financial catastrophe insurance. And we haven't had a financial catastrophe in the U.S. in 25 years. I'm not predicting financial catastrophe here, but if you hear Greenspan you will fear. I'm simply buying catastrophe insurance, when it's at its cheapest.

Politics in Beijing 2008 Olympics Games

The Chinese government has said political issues should not be linked to the 2008 Beijing Olympics amid mounting international criticism of its economic and military ties to Sudan.

If China can't face the truth, through public Freedom of Speech, about their terrible human rights history they have no place calling themselves Democratic and benefiting from western Capitalism. I don't even think China should have been GIVEN the honor of hosting the Olympics yet, until it has PROVED that it has changed it's policies and DESERVES the honor and privilege.

Sporting achievement is about the triumph of human spirit and that is what Olympics signify. Any athlete who believes so is right in airing his views on repression of the human spirit. After all, the most political statements of our times were made on the playing field...Jesse Owens (1936, Berlin), Power to the People salute (1968, Mexico City), Moscow Boycott(1980). China cannot push the dirt under carpet anymore, it needs to introspect. After all there's no smoke without fire.

Ali Eshraghi. The grandson of Khomeini, questioned Iran's politics

The revolutionary founder of Iran's Islamic republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, strongly opposed the involvement of the military in political life, his grandson Ali Eshraghi said. In an interview with Adnkronos International (AKI), Ali Eshraghi was speaking about the legacy of Khomeini after he was reinstated as a candidate for the Iran's parliamentary elections to be held on 14 March.

Ali Eshraghi will be a candidate for the Mosharekat Eslami party, founded by his brother-in-law, Mohammad Reza Khatami, younger brother of former president Mohammad Khatami. Ali Eshraghi did not use the term isolation to describe his country's position in the world but spoke of “a very difficult moment" and added that "even the government has contributed to this situation". He said the situation could be improved and tensions reduced if control was passed to representatives freely elected by the people.

Europe role in NATO

Whether we should be there or not is a separate issue, NATO is there and everyone NATO country should play their part. Its crazy that the US, British, Dutch & Canada are on active duty whilst many other European countries are hidden away in the relative safety of Northern Afghanistan.

The reputation of this organisation is at stake. We expect it of the Italians but Germany/France they should hang their heads in shame.

As a NATO member state Germany is obliged to send troops when and where they are required. Arguments about illegal wars may resonate regarding Iraq, but Afghanistan is different - it is and consistently has been a UN-mandated mission in which NATO has played a crucial role. It's high time nations other than the US, UK, Canada and the Netherlands deployed more troops, or at least ended the various caveats which hinder their current operations.

WTO ruled on EU's banana import regime

The World Trade Organisation has ruled in favour of a complaint by the United States against the European Union's banana import regime. The United States had argued that EU import duties of 176 euros (255 dollars) a tonne imposed on banana imports from Latin America harmed exports from major producer nations like Ecuador, Honduras, Panama and Nicaragua. Although the United States does not export bananas to the EU itself, three of the largest producers with plantations in Latin America are US-based multinationals: Chiquita, Del Monte and Dole.

In contrast, developing countries in the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group, which include many former European colonies, can import bananas under a quota system that permits 775,000 tonnes of duty-free imports per year. The WTO's Dispute Settlement Body already ruled last November in a similar case brought by Ecuador. Latin America accounts for four-fifths of EU banana imports, with ACP countries making up the rest.
