European Anti-Americanism

Anti-American sentiments always have existed in Europe, but have tended to expand significantly in reaction to certain US policy and prevalent attitudes. Recently American arrogance, increased unilateralism, Neo-Conservativism, the Bush administration and most importantly its involvement Iraq have damaged the reputation of the United States overseas. However the country’s economic dynamism, culture and democracy have always spurred admiration in Europe – and will continue to do so. Further pragmatic concerns such as military cooperation, cultural ties and economic investment tend to promote a more or less cordial relationship between the nations of Europe and the US.

The notion of all things American being despised in Europe is greatly overstated, and most often completely untrue.
