Russia's internal affairs are it's own business (exceptions being human rights abuses), but pointing missiles at Europe and the US becomes our business. The summit sounds like a fourth-of-July backyard barbeque, but perhaps the Bushes can impress on Putin the importance of reliable commercial law and how energy trade can bring prosperity to the exporter's people. They can also plan a joint strategy against Islamic terrorism. Both men must groom their governments for their successors.
Putin Is trying to convince the world that hard line state control over private oil, over local/regional government and lack of human rights are good for promoting peace with the West.
